Bananas with dark patches on yellow skin

Filed under: News — evanirpavloski @ 8:56 pm

The fully ripe banana produces a substance called TNF (Tumor Necrosis Factor) which has the ability to combat abnormal cells.

So don’t be surprised very soon the shop will go out of stock for bananas.

As the banana ripens, it develops dark spots or patches on the skin. The more dark patches it has, the higher will be its’ immunity enhancement quality .

Hence the Japanese love bananas for a good reason.

According to a Japanese scientific research, banana contains TNF which has anti-cancer properties.

The degree of anti-cancer effect corresponds to the degree of ripeness of the fruit, i.e. the riper the banana, the better
the anti-cancer quality.

In an animal experiment carried out by a professor in Tokyo University comparing the various health benefits of different fruits, using banana, grape, apple, water melon, pineapple, pear and persimmon, it was found that banana gave the best results. It increased the number of white blood cells, enhanced the immunity of the body and produced anti-cancer substance TNF.

The recommendation is to eat 1 to 2 bananas a day to increase your body immunity to diseases like cold, flu and others.

According to the Japanese professor, yellow skin bananas with dark spots on it are 8 times more effective in enhancing the property of white blood cells than the green skin version.

We’re back!

Filed under: News — evanirpavloski @ 5:47 pm

After a long long winter (actually summer and not that long), we’re back! A new year (once Carnival is through…). New students (they’ve  kind of grown in number since last year). And new posts (hopefully interesting ones). So, to get it started here you have a nice lyric by Pink Floyd to celebrate the re-opening of English Daily (at least I’m happy to re-open it…). See ya’!

Coming Back To Life (Pink Floyd)

Where were you when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by from my window watching
Where were you when I was hurt and I was helpless
Because the things you say and the things you do surround me
While you were hanging yourself on someone else’s words
Dying to believe in what you heard
I was staring straight into the shining sun

Lost in thought and lost in time
While the seeds of life and the seeds of change were planted

Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While I pondered on this dangerous but irresistible pastime
I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For killing the past and coming back to life

I took a heavenly ride trough our silence
I knew the waiting had begun
And headed straight… into the shining sun

Guns ‘N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose sues Guitar Hero maker

Filed under: News — evanirpavloski @ 4:40 pm

Axl Rose, the figurehead, lead vocalist and sole remaining original member of 80s’ rock band Guns ‘N’ Roses, is filing a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard, the company behind the phenomenally popular Guitar Hero franchise.

Activision is being sued for “fraud, breach of contract and unjust enrichment.”

Rose, 48, is seeking more than $20 million in damages for what he says was improper use of the Guns ‘N’ Roses song “Welcome To The Jungle” used in the game Guitar Hero III.

In legal documents leaked by Radar Online, Rose admits there was an agreement to use the song. However, as the lawsuit reads, Rose alleges:

“Activision breached the contract when it released Guitar Hero III which prominently features [former Guns ‘N’ Roses lead guitarist] Slash imagery in direct connection with the use of “Welcome to the Jungle,” exploits the prior association between Slash and Guns N’ Roses, promotes Slash’s and Velvet Revolver’s separate interests and includes Velvet Revolver tracks as available downloads, all of which was and is directly contrary to the contractual obligations of Defendants.”

Guns ‘N’ Roses is currently in the middle of a world tour set to wrap-up in Australia this December.

Mother kills baby for interrupting ‘Farmville’ game

Filed under: News — evanirpavloski @ 12:42 pm

A 22 year-old woman from Jacksonville, Florida has pleaded guilty to killing her baby son over a game of Farmville. She was charged with second-degree murder after allegedly shaking the baby to death when he disrupted her gaming experience.

Alexandra V. Tobias says her three-month old child, Dylan Lee Edmondson, had been crying while she was trying to play the popular Facebook casual game called Farmville.

This angered Tobias, who told authorities that she shook the baby, had a cigarette to calm herself down, then shook him again. It’s believed he “may have hit his head during the shaking”.

Farmville is a popular game on Facebook where users control a virtual farm.

Tobias entered her plea Wednesday, the Huffington Post reports, before Circuit Judge Adrian G. Soud. A second-degree murder charge is punishable by up to life in prison, according a report in the Florida Times-Union.

Prosecutor Richard Mantei said Tobias’ sentence could be less because of state guidelines that call for 25 to 50 years. Soud offered no promises on what he’ll order during a sentencing hearing scheduled for December.

Outside the courtroom, Prosecutor Mantei said Tobias’ plea will help avoid the family reliving the tragedy during a jury trial

Comments shared on gaming forums, like gamespot.com, have expressed outrage and condemned the woman’s action. Gamers across the country have called for swift punishment for such a senseless murder.

Woman Drove Around with Dead Body for Months!

Filed under: News — evanirpavloski @ 5:47 pm

Police have launched an investigation after discovering that a Southern California woman drove around for months with a homeless woman’s mummified body in her passenger seat.  Costa Mesa police said Thursday they discovered the body after receiving a call about a car that was blocking a driveway.  Sgt. Ed Everett says officers noticed a stench from the car and found the body covered in a blanket.  He says the woman who drives the car told police she let the homeless woman sleep in her car and one morning found she had died inside.  The driver was afraid to contact police.  Everett tells The Orange County Register the remains were partially mummified and could have been in the car anywhere from three to 10 months.  There are no signs of foul play.

Nationalism or radicalism?

Filed under: News — evanirpavloski @ 10:15 pm

The Philippine House of Representatives has approved a bill criminalising the improper singing of the country’s national anthem.

If the Senate passes the bill into law, performers who deviate from the official version could face a fine of more than $2,000 (£1,264).

The new bill, which is very precise, says offenders could face up to two years in jail.

It also outlines penalties for improper use or displaying of the national flag.

When one of the Philippines’ most famous pop stars Charice Pempengco sings her country’s national anthem, her rendition is deemed acceptable by the National Historical Institute.

But not all versions are so favourably received.

Other performers have been criticised for singing the anthem too slowly or with the wrong beat, or adding their own personal touches.

This new bill is very precise: the anthem should be sung to a marching tempo, within the range of 100 to 120 beats per minute.

When it is played at public gatherings and in cinemas, all citizens should stand to attention and sing with fervour, as a sign of respect.

The bill also tightens up the rules on the use of the national flag – but it is the anthem that has the biggest impact.

This is a country where people love to sing. Now – if people want to sing their national song, they need to make sure they do it properly.
